A solution of cellulose acetate-butyrate is prepared in limonene (oil of lemon) at 75-95 Deg. C.
The solution is poured into an aqueous solution of gelatine (equal volume) also at 75 degC.
Rapid stirring is need to form a stable emulsion.
I am currently optimizing this emulsion formulation.
A 1:1 solution of a commericial oil-based paint is stirred with the emulsion ( room temperature) for 2-3 minutes to form a uniform blend.
It was applied to cardstock and dried in 15-30 minutes at 20 Deg C.
Chitosan ( from crustacean chitin) can be added for bulk or impasto effect.
The paint dries to a hard surface and is impervious to water.
This lacquer is prepared from all bio-resource materials and contains no acrylics.
We will upload detail experimental procedure.
We place this in the public domain for artists and chemists to consider , but please cite our website!
Left: green paint formulation applied to cardstock 10-15 minutes before image captured.
Right: some chitosan added for bulk or more for impasto effect, if desired.
