Kleister Medium is a semi-transparent medium that adds extra body to paint, ideal for creating textural patterns and effects for faux finishes, such as Faux Bois or wood graining techniques. It increases the transparency of the paint and extends its drying time.
 
Directions:
As an Overglaze: Use Kleister Medium to create transparent and textural patterns. Suitable techniques include wood graining and ragging.
Tinting: The medium can be tinted with your choice of colour, starting with a ratio of approximately 1 part paint to 3 parts Kleister Medium.
Application: Apply evenly over a dry, base-coated item. Create texture or patterns using your preferred tools, such as a brush, rag, plastic, sponge, or graining tools.
General Use: Also effective as a general painting medium to facilitate stroke work.
For Smoked Backgrounds: Prepare smoked backgrounds for various painting techniques using Kleister Medium.
Extending Work Time: Combine with Retarder Medium either on the surface or mixed into the Kleister Medium to extend working time. Note that this medium will delay the drying and curing process.
 
Additional Information:
Drying and Curing: Ensure the medium is dry thoroughly before decorating or varnishing. A hair dryer may accelerate surface drying. Normal cure time is 2 weeks, but this may need to be extended depending on the amount of medium used and environmental conditions.
Before Varnishing: A coat of Clear Glaze Medium is recommended prior to varnishing to enhance the finish, particularly in humid or variable climatic conditions.
 
Coverage and Safety:
Coverage: Approximately 1 ml covers 125 sq cm, 1 oz covers about 4 sq ft.
Cleanup and Safety: Water-based and non-toxic, conforming to ASTM D 4236. Clean up with mild soap and cool water. Safe to dry with a hair dryer.
